From here out, this journal will be friends-only. It's pretty much been friends-only for quite some time now anyway.

I just paid $2.05 a gallon for gas. At the CHEAP station. DAMN. Wasn't it just like, a dollar seventy-something a day or two ago? I feel for ya Jake. If it's this bad for us, you've gotta be nearing $2.50 a gallon out there. More random ramblings... I got a lot accomplished today. Managed to defeat the mountain of laundry, clean the sink full of dirty dishes, clean my toilet. Then I re-made the bed and dusted and polished all the wood in my bedroom. And then, subversive pie. Though tonight may have been more like theoretical pie. Thanks to L for letting me tag along. And great to see you again K! It's 43 degrees at the moment. All the local stations have been predicting that tonight's low will be 31 degrees. I'm gonna go crawl under some warm blankets before that comes along. g'night. The past week and a half have been interesting. My life has gone through some peaks and valleys that even the Millennium Force would envy. Right now I’m at one of the highest peaks I’ve ever experienced. And I hope to stay here for a good, long time. This morning I dug through my glove compartment and re-discovered one of my favorite possessions – the very first Richard Marx tape. So, I got to drive to work blaring “Endless Summer Nights” at top volume. Very nice. Very happy. This should be a good day. I’ve made up a new word for one of my conditions. You’ve heard of honesty or veracity? Well, I come down with dumbassity. It just sounds so much better than dumbassness. Last week I displayed my dumbassity several times, not the least of which was with my VCR. Tuesday night was the season premier of my favorite show – Gilmore Girls. So, I set up the VCR to record and went out. Do you THINK I remembered to check the tape first? Oh HELL no. That would make sense. Tape wasn’t rewound, and so I got to see the season premier, sans the last 15 minutes. That sucked. Thursday night I decided to tape the season premier of ER. But THIS time, I remembered to rewind the tape. I set up the VCR timer and went out. When I went to watch the tape, I’d realized the dumbassity was there loud and clear again. I’d set the recorder for 9:55 p.m. until 10:05 p.m., rather than 11:05. I got five minutes of ER. argh. Let’s see…. Still under consideration for the Boeing job. Though, as my brother would say, “I doubt the Florida group is really concerned with hiring at the moment.” True. The hurricane crap comes first, I’m sure. Also still considering applying for this job. Not sure yet. There’s a guy who recently started working here who could be Ryan Newman’s twin. *sigh* I swear he’s a spitting image. And since I work with engineers in the middle of Indiana, I about fell over the first time I saw him. Thought maybe he was visiting the plant or something. But now I just see him in the cafeteria at lunch time. How pretty. This past weekend was a LOT of fun. Thursday and Friday I got to hang out with E and L. Lots of Life and Sorry and Munchkin! And just general chatter too. PPD was on Saturday. I had the opportunity to see some friends I haven’t seen in a long time. Was even going to bid on some auction stuff this year, but spent most of my cash on a flower headband thingie. Sunday was mostly spent cleaning. Fun weekend… though, I came to a grim realization yesterday. So far this season, I’ve only watched a grand total of 21 minutes of Eagles games. And yes, that includes pre-season. How pathetic is that? Doesn’t make me any less of a fan though. :) With all the stuff that’s been going on lately, I have about two weeks worth of email and LJ posts to catch up on reading. I’ll get there eventually. Current Mood: peacefulCurrent Music: Phil walking by, muttering about stoogettes. | | Wednesday, September 15th, 2004 | | 6:55 pm |
I think I want to go for ice cream. Or maybe it's just that I'm thirsty, but want to drive really far and really fast. I think I'm in escape mode. Current Mood: predatoryCurrent Music: Sarah Brightman - The Last Words You Said | | Tuesday, September 14th, 2004 | | 6:32 pm |
Didn't think that last post would get as much response as it has. I promise I'll get around to everyone! And if I do answer you, please return the favor. I've dubbed this past weekend "Zombie Weekend." Lots of zombie goodness :) Got to go to Muncie for dinner on Friday night, then a party on Saturday night, then some random stuff on Sunday. Had a lot of fun. :) And now, here's another meme to keep me from writing more. And here's my lovely Yahoo horoscope: You're worrying about things that may never happen. Do your best to concentrate on the here and now rather than the impossible to predict future. Fear of failure holds you back from endeavors that normally wouldn't make you blink. Be brave and shift to a winner's perspective. Once you have the first step behind you, the rest of the path won't seem nearly so long. Lean on the one person you feel closest to for support if and when you need it. heh. funny. obligatory generic update So, I got bored and decided to look at the "My Yahoo" page, and came across my horoscope for the day: "You are inspired to take the initiative -- in fact, you are compelled. Self-fulfilling prophecies begin and end with you. Your destiny rests lightly in your hands. The best way to steer things in a positive direction is to stop planning and start doing. Action is your best friend today. Don't sit around and wait for others to take the lead. Be a pioneer and others will follow in your direction. Propose an idea at work -- your enthusiasm will help in all your endeavors." Sound familiar to anyone? Yeah. That 'self-fulfilling prophecies' bit there is kinda freaky. Wouldn't be so bothersome if someone didn't write that exact same phrase to me last night. Let's see. Haven't been spending much time online. Have probably 3 weeks worth of email sitting there unanswered. Been kinda sitting here pouting at the tv for the last day and a half since the Weather Channel guys are broadcasting from the beach in Daytona. :( I wanna be there! Maybe a trip is long overdue. Oh... and if any of you need a place to run when evacuating, I have a spare room. :p What else... OH. I applied for the Shuttle propulsion job. Lemme look up the status website here... yup. Still under consideration. That was the suckiest resume build I've ever done, so not really expecting anything. Also came across an aero engineer job for NASA at Wallops Island, VA. It opened yesterday, so I have a little time to decide on that one. Nice to hear from a lot of you lately... especially the ones I haven't heard from in forever (like you, SHAWN). Argh. They're back at the Home Depot on International Speedway Blvd. in Daytona :( Oh! and there's downtown Beach Street. gah. self-torture is bad. must... change... channel. mmkay. Think I'm gonna go to bed. Not feeling very well. Current Mood: apatheticCurrent Music: Weather Channel | | Friday, August 27th, 2004 | | 12:43 am |
A few quick comments: There were two messages on my answering machine when I got home tonight. Here's some replies - 1). Marcus - Kiss my fat white ass. ;) I was out of town most of the day. Shows what you know :p You'll get a call back when I damn well feel like it... though now I'm seriously considering sitting there and laughing at you as you talk to the machine next time. hehe But ya know I wuv ya, right? 2.) Yes, dad. I know the Eagles game was on ESPN tonight. On a related note... I repeat: Fuck you, Elwood (and no, that's not an offer or promise) ;) The western side of our great Commonwealth still sucks ass, no matter what your team does to my boys. :) Count your lucky stars you got Staley. [it's only preseason, it's only preseason, it's only preseason... though the injuries are real] Ah, I feel much better now. In such a playful mood. The Blues Brothers put me in a wonderful mood again. Thanks guys ;) ( And now a quiz stolen from Dino (that I'm sure some others would like to also take) ) Current Mood: amusedCurrent Music: Joshua Kadison - Jesse | | Tuesday, August 24th, 2004 | | 7:08 pm |
Well, I've had a long week. GenCon was awesome! It was great to see everyone! I'm even starting to think of costume ideas for next year. Life's been pretty good lately. I think I need to devote more time to Zelda and Soul Calibur and Stronghold. Definately need to remember all of the Sophitia combos. Anyways... here's some quizzes before the thunderstorm gets here. Well, where to start. If you want updates on my medical situations, ask. The week so far has been odd. Had a doctor appointment Monday afternoon, so I got to leave work early (thankfully). Then Monday night I talked to Tara for well over an hour. Which is a feat in itself since I don't like being on the phone. Tuesday night I went to a game night. That was one of the best nights I've had in a long time... even if I was spaced out for most of it. Yesterday was bland. Went shopping. Yay. Actually, one point was kinda funny... I was in a store and heard some lady yelling, "Levitra, get over here!" Heh. That poor little girl. She'll probably be changing her name as soon as she can. After yesterday's marathon shopping, I had to still go more places today after work. So it was go to Sally's, go to Circuit City, and then STRAIGHT HOME. And here I am. Now listening to the brand spankin' new Richard Marx CD. So, if this one is anything like his last few albums, I'll either be extremely turned on or extremely depressed in about an hour. Hopefully a happy medium. Just got really tired all of the sudden. Had interviews at work today, and I think they've drained me. Let's start with a little humor. This is stolen from one of the communities I watch: Q: What do the Philadelphia Eagles and Billy Graham have in common? A: The both can make 70,000 people stand up and yell "Jesus Christ". hehe. Been there, done that. Grew up listening to it. Actually, my dad probably used every bit of profanity ever created over the years while watching Eagles games. Bounty Bowl, Pork Chop Bowl, Fog Bowl... *sigh* good stuff. I can't wait. Let's see... I'm alive. I guess that's a good thing. I still need to go see the doctor next week. Nothing contagious, and I have a good idea what's going on, and what may have to happen. But the pills aren't working. Thanks to katmandu07 for the ibuprofen suggestion. It hasn't taken the swelling down any, but it's somehow helped. My voice is getting somewhat back to normal and I don't choke on a drink of water. I got my GenCon stuff in the mail last a week or two ago. Kinda getting excited about that... it's constantly coming up in conversations (so you know it HAS to be getting close). My friends will be here again this year, so YAY! Should be fun. The campfire smell has seeped into my house. Not that I'm compaining ;) I love that smell. Just don't want all my clothes and everything to smell like it. Guess I'll perch myself on the bench about 1:15 ish to watch the fly-over. I probably could still get a ticket if I wanted to go. Went the last two years. It's kinda weird to not have Jarrod and Andy here while the Brickyard is going on. OH... and the fireworks are beautiful! Some of those campers are putting on awesome shows this year. I actually made it to TWO parties tonight. And yes, I wore the dress. With two-inch heels. To both of them. Yes, Riddle folks - you read that right. Me in a dress for a social occasion. Hell must surely be freezing over, no? You know what else is funny? I can't remember the last time I wore a flannel over a t-shirt. What the hell has happened to me? I've also discovered today that Best Buy employees are mostly clueless (no offense to Kaare). I hate going in that store though. I go in for a specific purpose, then find about 1000 things I want to buy but have no need for. Thank goodness for willpower. Although August 10th is quickly approaching. Must - Buy - New - Richard - CD. Though probably somewhere else. Their CD prices are kinda high. Off to watch fireworks! Hams - don't forget there's a Brickyard 400 special events station tomorrow. Might as well try for it! Current Mood: mellowCurrent Music: Savatage - Alone You Breathe | | Tuesday, August 3rd, 2004 | | 7:11 pm |
Tara, I'll call one of these nights. I was out of town when you called, and everytime I remember it's past Abby's bedtime. Jake & Elwood/HT - I'll fill in what I remember of the Safety thread soon. It's printed out and has been sitting on my coffee table for at least a week. Riggs - you were talking to me the other night about something I'd posted days ago. I know you're lurking. Post already, damnit. I'll be going to Howl at the Moon tomorrow night. Anyone is free to meet me there, or arrange otherwise. As always. That is all. I'm going for a bath. Oh. My. God.
Well, look who's here: riggsapo | | 3:38 pm |
:) It's been an odd day. Walked the trash outside at about 0600 this morning and it started drizzling on me. After a momentary flash of "oh, wonderful way to start the day," my mind immediately switched over to, "hey, this feels kinda good." odd. Work was same as always. I've been spending a lot of time on an engine case for the new Super Hawkeye stuff. Actually, it's been taking up most of the last week and a half (aside from yesterday). Not bad, but sick of staring at little numbers. Then - and this is the really odd part - I went into the bathroom after lunch to brush my teeth and looked up in the mirror. It was just one of those, 'damn, I actually look kinda decent today' moments. Now, I just about never have one of those moments. It was nice to be happy with myself for a little while. And then we were able to leave an hour early. So now here I am, absolutely excited after receiving an anticipated email, and contently watching the rain. I think things may be looking up. ** Edit - I just got my first paycheck since my promotion kicked in. I'm now officially making $200 more per pay period. *yawn* It's been a long time since I've seen the sun rise because I've been up all night. The only thing that could make this better is if I were seeing it rise over a sea of water. Thank you, ziggy, for talking me out of the house. Jeopardy! Turd Ferguson! Click that link and get the one that's Burt Reynolds, French Stewart & Sean Connery. I love those skits! On another Jeopardy! note... did anyone catch it tonight? All of the Double Jeopardy! categories were tarot themed (the magician, death, wands/swords/cups/pentacles, the tower, etc). It was pretty cool. And, of course, Ken won again. Also sorta mixing in with the whole Celebrity Jeopardy! & other things we laughed at for hours in the Avion office... the second season of Ali G is starting soon. I wish the version here was as funny as the overseas version though. Work is going to get really tough, really soon. Actually, yesterday sucked pretty bad. We had a monthly program review that I'd forgotten about. And the program manager was here from the Bristol, UK office, which makes it even longer. So there I sat for four freakin hours desperately trying to stay awake. Then yesterday afternoon I found out that I have another proposal to work on (and help the new guy), and the evil one that keeps getting re-opened had three more to be reviewed. All on top of the marathon of a workload we're going to have coming up through September or so. This isn't looking good. I was thinking about taking a few trips soon... maybe even driving back to Pennsylvania for a week or so. Guess that won't be happening. Maybe a few weekend trips though. Work wasn't too bad today though. Fridays tend to be rather quiet lately. Which is really good for getting loose ends tied up and finishing little tasks. Plus, I got to go downtown and meet a buddy for lunch :) And next week I get to go back downtown for lunch with anjala! Monday I need to get out to the assembly floor with our QA guy to look at some hardware. Should be fun. I got an email from Jeannise yesterday. She's the "new" secretary of the University Safety Department. I worked there for many years, and Jeannise was the third secretary I'd been through. weird. Anyways... she said that the Department moved again... they're now up where the SGA offices were. Which is right down the hall from the Avion office. Which means all the Avion folks actually have to behave now! mwah hah hah. suckers. She also mentioned that they hired another student assistant named Jessica... But Bruce (the director) still refers to me as "Jessica the First." That's so cute! Especially since this guy scared the hell outta me the first few years I worked for him. Which reminds me... Jake, have you or Elwood talked with Tibbo recently? And where's that repeater info, hmmmm? This weekend should be relatively slow. Need to do some shopping and eventually get an oil change. Need to mow the lawn. Need to weed the flower beds and garden. And then maybe catch up on some movies. I got another free movie ticket when I went to see "The Notebook" a while back. Better use that before it expires. Well, I'm gonna go be bored for a while. Oh! And thanks for the postcard :D Current Mood: mellowCurrent Music: The Pretenders - I'll Stand By You | | Tuesday, July 13th, 2004 | | 10:27 pm |
